Set in the rolling Poitou countryside, a haven of beauty and calm. A
goldmine of signposted walks through woodland and fields and of safe,
quiet, traffic-free lanes for cycling. The cottage lies in the middle of
the triangle formed by Poitiers, Limoges and Angoul�me, each of which has
its own special charm and historical interest. You can also visit
Futuroscope, the renowned cinematic theme park just by Poitiers. There are
pretty market towns all within easy reach, Charroux itself having a
distinguished historical prominence as an abbey centre in the time of
Charlemagne. Civray has a wonderful market on two days a week and a
fascinating, beautiful Romanesque church. Confolens, a picturesque
photographer's gem on the River Vienne, has its unique Festival
Folklorique in August.

The cottage itself is by a large garden in farmland. It is the product of
a careful, tasteful, architect-designed conversion last year, a cool,
convenient, quiet retreat in the heat of summer and cosiness personified
in winter. We have thought hard to meet the needs of the active
country-loving holiday-maker, but we have also had very much in mind
offering the peace and the escape from the stresses and strains of the
daily grind.

France has its special appeal - the language, the history, the climate,
the terrain. It also has its bread, its cheese, its panoply of culinary
and alimentary delights. Needless to say, there's also the wine! What
better, then, than to enjoy them in the purpose-built comfort of La
Perdrix - so named in honour of the partridge whose roost we stole in
making the conversion. We remain hopeful that she found a compatible
alternative home.
